Southern Saints 2010 Season

Match Report

Well it was a tough drive down to Mornington and full credit to those that said they were going to play and actually made the effort to drive down and put on the famous Southern Saints jumper.

I was very excited by the the team make up and overwhelmed by the numbers that we had available. The thought of having numbers to choose from and many players for the one position was beyond a dream. I even thought it will be difficult to give everyone a real run, until they started to pull out on Sunday morning. Never the less we started with four on the bench and the belief that we were going to win by 10 goals.

In extremely difficult conditions and kicking into a gale force wind we keep them to a very low score, with Abe and Sim as always hard at the ball and Bucks sweeping across the backline as a looseman in defence. All was set for a fantastic second quarter and an opportunity to pile on the goals. From some very undisciplined play from us and some very desperate play from the opposition they prevented us from really making the most of our chances and led to what would become a very ordinary loss.

We had the majority of the ball in the third quarter and looked like we could still have possibly stolen the game, yet a few fumbles and turn overs cost us dearly. The coach was wrong to advise we bomb the ball into the forward line as we didn't have the height or the numbers to capitalise on the opportunities that were presented in that part of the ground. In future we will work towards a more running, possession style trying to hit targets that are free.

All in all it was a very dissappointing loss that we didn't need to have. We now have a second opportunity to beat another middle of the road opposition that only beat us by 10 points the first time we played them. Let's learn from this, keep our heads up and look to smash Glen Orden next Sunday. This is very achievable if we take our footy seriously get off the piss early sat night and get there in a fit and ready state to play footy. Vallant efforts from Joffa, Jarvo, Billy Derham, Willow, and Dave Enticott.

Public Notice

This Saturday the 5th of June our beloved Masters Captain, Joffa, will play his 350th game for Glen Eira Saints footy club.

Joffa has proven to be a great aquisition to the Southern Saints Footy Club especially to our bar takings, however, as we all know Joffa has still been amazing us all by continuing to play on a Saturday with GlenEira Saints. A club whom he has held just about every position at, barman, waterboy, club clown, and many other insignificant roles such as Major Sponsor and committee man.
