Over 47s match report

The old hogs travelled to Williamstown to take on a top contender in Footscray o47s. As expected, the ground was wet and muddy.

Footscray got away in the first half, but Southern clawed their way back to – but lost in the end. A team meeting post-match was held at the Stag Hotel for players and WAGS.

After the game, Mick Ashkar was singled out for a top performance. Actually the entire back lines did well. The real turning point was when Frankie was taken off the wing and replaced by someone else. Who let the Frankston winger kick two goals in succession. Billy D played like a treasurer possessed and decided to travel to Hallam to inspire the masters team.

Mick O’Connor played his first game in a while and took marks around the ground and played like an uninjured player.

The last quarter saw 3 easy (actually very easy) set shots for goal by the Saints. The culprits managed to kick 3 points. Whitey managed to make a slow bouncing ball look fast whilst having the entire forward half to himself. How he managed to let the ball dribble out of bounds remains a mystery.

Neil, Fleisch and Frankie had the centreline covered. With a muddy centre they threw themselves into the pack to win the unwinnable ball. Inspirational stuff....

Before the game inappropriate behaviour was mentioned (so why was Neil bandaging Stevie O?)  The definition of unsportsmanlike behaviour didn’t include mental trauma which was clearly suffered by coach Mick watching the forward line do their stuff.

Special mention to Ron Frank who played his first game for the Saints (and is still yet to play in a winning team for 2010)

Post game coaches comments:

Despite the disappointment of Yesterday’s loss to Old Scotch, looking at the ladder our destiny is still well and truly in our hands in the Supers. Let’s get down to training on Wednesday and really have a crack at winning our last 4 Games and going to the Finals with some momentum – there are no standout teams in this comp and definitely no one we cannot beat.

See you Wednesday
