ROUND 2 - 02 MAY 2010
WERRIBEE V
SOUTHERN SAINTS - CHIRNSIDE PARK
These
two clubs had never met before in this ‘rivalry round’. Chirnside
Park is a magnificent oval and hosted a VFA match the previous day. The
o47 started arriving at 10am with some venturing to main street Werribee
for a pre match meeting involving coffee and cigarettes.
Werribee is a thriving suburb and the marauding gangs of ‘’crips’’
and ‘’bloods ‘’were nowhere to be seen.

Werribee 6.5 lost to Southern Saints 16.11
How could they win without Fitzy? In a horrific training injury on Wednesday
this hand model/ruckman broke his nail. When he saw blood and started
screaming like Ned Flanders it was a code red
for all the trainers.
The Saints won this game with teamwork and pace. In what is termed ‘reverse
flooding’ the saints managed to flood their forward line with players
all running in. Joey managed two long bombs when Ron F was taken off him
(word was that Frankie shut down the Joey machine down for maintenance).
When the Saints went forward they looked for Gorgeous George and then
they had running options of Joey, Fleisch, Craig, Pepe, Joffa, Wayne,
John Boy , Sniffa.
Ruck work was shared by first gamer Mario and Rod Harrop. This usually
resulted in Neil or John Boy getting possession.
Before the game Werribee used their number one draft pick on Ronnie Frank.
They already had a ‘Ronnie’ and a ‘’Frankie’’,
I suggested ‘’ T Bone’’ like in the Seinfeld episode
(..better than Coco or gammy).
Goal kickers:
Wayne 4, Sniffa 3, Joffa 3, Craig 2 Joey 2 Fleish 1 George 1

Final note: If Joffa gets multiple knocks to the head why is he complaining
about a sore knee??
After the match we had presentations and food was made available by our
hosts. Werribee presented a six pack for the best player of the opposing
team, which was won by John Boy (excellent game Boy).
Oh, by the way did you know Werribee players had bottled water while the
Saints used ‘recycled water’ during the game. Drink up boys....
Best Players Werribee: T-Bone (Ronnie
F), stiffler, boner, meat, love-pump, donger

Coaches Report Southern Saints v Werribee.
After a lackluster opening term, where I believe both the Coach and the
players underestimated the strength of the breeze and also had difficulty
in adjusting to the vast playing surface, the Southern Saints knuckled
down to increase pressure on the Werribee ball carriers and ground out
a half time lead by the end of the second quarter.
Once we started hitting our targets we got right on top and Werribee had
trouble bringing the ball through the corridor as they had earlier, our
tackling was fantastic allowing us to get the ball free to our ball carriers.
JB and Skins were outstanding again and Baby Face gave us first use and
a big presence around the contests. Billy D cemented his reputation as
the competitions premier 50 year old player.
Huge game at home on the 16th against the also unbeaten Frankston. I urge
everyone to make a special effort to get to training over the next fortnight
in preparation for our biggest test so far.
